B Strong Supports
B Strong Ride celebrates cancer survivorship, provides all funding for the Boulder Community Hospital Center for Integrative Care and raises funds for the George Karl Foundation.
Both organizations have deep personal impacts on people whose lives are impacted by cancer. Supporting them moves our riders and sponsors to super human efforts – even when battling for their own lives – including our 2012 top fundraiser and cancer survivor Dominic Scrivner.
B Strong riders and sponsors have been an outstanding success in our first two years:
- 2012: 756 Riders - Over $352,000 raised.
- 2011: 524 Riders - Over $273,000 raised.
B Strong Beneficiaries:
Boulder Community Hospital Center for Integrative Care (CIC) provides a wide range of services integrated with conventional cancer care. Care options provided are clinically shown to reduce stress and anxiety, and improve clinical outcomes by enhancing wound healing, reducing the need for pain medication, and shortening hospital stays.
CIC provides evidence-based care by certified and licensed practitioners for current cancer patients and cancer survivors, as well as their family members and caregivers, including:
- Manual Lymph Drainage
- Massage Therapy and Reflexology
- Reiki and Healing Touch Massage
- Wellness & Integrative Care Consultation
From CIC Patients:
I became a patient at the Center for Integrative Care center 4 years ago after my radiation treatments, then last year after surgery to remove my cancer. Both times I felt very weak and debilitated from repeated treatments, and getting acupuncture helped my process of healing and recovery. These ongoing treatments at the CIC were only possible for me because of reduced fee offered by the foundation. - Ellen T.
Because I have so much pain, Reiki is the perfect treatment for me. When I am on that table and Carol is “holding” me with her energy, I really relax. Thanks to the people who fund the Center and make this treatment available. - LuAnn K.
I don’t know how my wife would have gotten through the last months of her life if it had not been for acupuncture. It was the only thing that relieved her headaches and made it possible for her to sleep. If only Medicare covered this vital treatment. The staff and this treatment provided relief when medicine could not. - Martin C.
B Strong partners with Denver Nuggets’ Coach George Karl and the George Karl Foundation (GKF). With B Strong funding, GKF supports:
MyLifeLine.org is a nonprofit organization that encourages cancer patients and caregivers to create free, customized websites. MyLifeLine’s mission is to empower patients to build an online support community of family and friends to foster connection, inspiration, and healing.
The Cancer Care Initiative at Swedish Medical Center combines traditional therapies with nutrition, fitness, massage, acupuncture, pain management and other comprehensive services, so patients have far less difficulty during treatment. They also feel stronger physically and mentally and actually have a better chance of making the transition from cancer patient to cancer survivor.
